Description
My name is Nyaluak Pal Yiech. I am 18 years old. I have one older brother, Youngdow and a younger brother Buay. My father died when I was very young. My older brother sold fruit and Sim Sim to help my mom take care of us. She got very sick and also died, so my grandmother cared for us. We lived in the Pignudo refugee camp and did not have good clothes or food. The burden was very hard for my grandmother so she took us to the church and asked for help. They church told us about Mama Kim and Baba Brad in Malakal, South Sudan and my grandmother decided to take us there. I was 10 yrs old at this time. I was very frightened. I have never been around white people. They were very kind and I like their daughters. WE all became family and they taught me about God and to learn math and English. I began going to school and I wanted to work very hard to get a good education. Then the war came again to South Sudan and we had to run. Mom and Dad did not leave us. Even Katie and Kassidy stayed with us in the war. We finally came to Gambella for safety. I have been here since 2014. The education is better here, but I want a really good education so that I can study science and go back to my nation and help them there. I am praying that after school, I can go to university. It is my dream.
